New York Riptide Sign Five Players

NEW YORK, July 23, 2019 – The New York Riptide announced today that the team has signed five players: Connor Kelly, Mike Manley, Kieran McArdle, and Dawson Theede to two-year deals; and John Ranagan to a one-year deal. Per team policy, specific terms of the deals were not disclosed.

“We’re excited to welcome Connor, Mike, Kieran, Dawson and John to the Riptide,” said Riptide Head Coach and General Manager Regy Thorpe. “Collectively they bring the hard-nosed grit on the field we are looking for, and are all incredible guys to represent our team off the field.”

Kelly, an Easton, Connecticut native, played in seven games during his rookie season recording nine goals and eight assists. The 6-0, 185-pound forward was selected by the San Diego Seals in the third round, 33^rd overall, in the 2018 Entry Draft. The Riptide picked up Kelly in the third-round of the 2019 NLL Expansion Draft.

Manley, a Penn Yan, New York native and six-year NLL veteran, has played in 58 career games. The 6-1, 204-pound defenseman spent two seasons each with Rochester, Philadelphia, and New England where he was drafted in the fourth-round in the 2012 NLL Expansion Draft. The Riptide selected Manley in the seventh-round of the 2019 NLL Expansion Draft.

McArdle is a Ronkonkoma, New York native who attended St. John’s University. The 6-1, 175-pound left-handed forward has played in 47 games over three seasons in the NLL, recording a career high 40 points during the 2018-19 season. The Riptide selected McArdle in the sixth-round of the 2019 NLL Expansion Draft.

Ranagan, a Yorktown, New York native, has played five seasons and 83 career games in the NLL, recording 16 career goals and 24 assists. The 6-3, 218-pound defenseman was recently named the 2019 NLL Teammate of the Year. Ranagan was selected by the Riptide in the second-round of the 2019 NLL Expansion Draft.

Theede, a 6-3, 206-pound left-handed forward, played eight games his rookie season, registering three goals and seven assists. The Riptide picked up Theede in the eighth-round of the 2019 NLL Expansion Draft.

The NLL awarded the New York franchise to live events and sports media entertainment company GF Sports in December 2018. The Riptide will play home games at NYCB LIVE, Home of the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum when it begins play in December for the 2019-20 NLL season.
