GAME PREVIEW: NEW YORK RIPTIDE VS SAN DIEGO SEALS

The New York Riptide, led by Jeff Teat, are slated to play against the San Diego Seals this Saturday, February 10th, at 7:30 PM EST. The Riptide have been on a winning streak, having triumphed in their last three games, including a hard-fought 11-10 victory against Calgary. They will be looking to extend their run of success, but face a formidable challenge against the San Diego Seals, who are currently one of the top teams in the NLL, boasting an impressive 6-2 record and the best score differentials in the league. This game promises to be a memorable occasion, as it is Marvel Night, with the first 3,000 attendees receiving a limited-edition NLL Marvel comic book. For those unable to attend, the game will be broadcast on ESPN+ and TSN+.

Riptide Getting Hot:

The New York Riptide have turned the season around after an 0-3 start to the year. The addition of veteran Stephen Keogh has proven to be a successful one as the offense has elevated their game since the introduction of the twelve-year veteran. Jeff Teat has shown why he was an All-Pro last year, as he is leading the league in goals this year with 26 on the year. He is also just one point behind Dhane Smith for the league lead in points. Reilly O’Connor has been one of the top feeders in the NLL this year, sitting at 5th in the league in assists with 31 helpers on the year. The Riptide are sitting in seventh place in the NLL entering Week 11, as the team has risen the standings in January to enter the playoff picture. During the team’s win streak, the Riptide have a goal differential of +6, winning their last contest against Calgary by just one goal.

The San Diego Seals are currently in second place, just a half-game back of the Toronto Rock for first place in the NLL. Wes Berg has been leading the Seals’ offense in their first eight games with 50 points, which has him sitting at 4th in the league. Austin Staats is coming off his best performance of the season in Week 10, scoring six goals against Colorado to carry the Seals to their fourth consecutive win. San Diego has the best goal differential in the league this year at +22. Goalie Chris Origlieri has been having his best year in the NLL this season, allowing just 9.70 goals per game with an 80% save percentage. San Diego has the best goal differential in the league.

History Between the Teams:

The Seals and Riptide have played each other just twice in both team’s short history in the league. Both matchups have taken place in Long Island, with the Seals winning both matchups, most recently in the season opener of the 2023 season 15-14. Wes Berg and Dhane Dobbie connected for the game-winner in that matchup, as the duo combined for 10 points in that game. Jeff Teat did all he could for the Riptide in that matchup, scoring four goals and ending the game with eleven total points as the comeback bid fell just short.
