New York Riptide Sign 10 Players

NEW YORK, August 2, 2019 – The New York Riptide announced today that the team has signed 10 free agents, continuing to bolster the roster ahead of the team’s inaugural season. Forward Ryan Brown, transition player Connor Buczek, forward Jake Froccaro, forward Dan Lomas and forward Nick Mariano lead the group of players.

“We have been focused on finding the best talent available to build a team that will compete on day one,” said Riptide Head Coach and General Manager Regy Thorpe. “We are excited for all of these players to join us for training camp to compete for a roster spot and a chance to be a part of the Riptide’s inaugural season.”

Brown, a 5-10, 190-pound forward is recognized as one of the best shooters in the world. He earned All-World honors in helping Team USA win the 2018 World Lacrosse Championship and finished the tournament with a team-leading 25 goals.

Buczek, a 6-2, 190-pound transition player was recently named to the 2019 US Lacrosse Indoor team. A three-time All-American in college, Buczek is a three-time Major League Lacrosse (MLL) All-Star and is currently playing in the Premier Lacrosse League (PLL).

Froccaro, a 6-1, 195-pound forward is a Long Island native and former Ivy League Rookie of the Year (2013). He was named a two-time First Team All-BIG EAST and currently plays in the PLL.

Lomas, a 5-11, 190-pound left-handed forward has played 19 games over three seasons in the NLL, netting 17 goals and 25 assists. Lomas was selected in the second-round (16th overall) in the 2016 NLL Entry Draft.

Mariano, a 6-3, 205-pound forward has played in the MLL for the past three seasons and was named a 2019 All-Star. During the 2018-19 NLL season he was a practice player for the New England Black Wolves.

The Riptide are welcoming several New York area natives to the team, including: Buczek (Ithaca, New York), Froccaro (Long Island, New York), Mariano (Yorktown, New York), Cody Radziewicz (Syracuse, New York), and Ky Tarbell (Massena, New York).

The NLL awarded the New York franchise to live events and sports media entertainment company GF Sports in December 2018. The Riptide will play home games at NYCB LIVE, Home of the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum when it begins play in December for the 2019-20 NLL season.
