Uniondale, NY (September 21, 2020) – The New York Riptide announced today that the team has signed Mathieu Boissonneault and Kris Veltman to two-year contracts.
“Mathieu and Kris not only add depth to our right defensive position but are both made of the character we want our players to emulate,” Riptide general manager Jim Veltman said. “We are excited to see their potential turn into reality.”
Boissonneault, selected in the second round, 17th overall, in last Thursday’s NLL Entry Draft, served as team captain during the 2020 season as a senior at Canisius. In a COVID-19 shortened senior season, Boissonneault led the team with 13 goals and was second on the squad with 17 points, becoming the 22nd player in program history to reach 100 career points on February 18th. An All-MAAC First Team selection following his junior year and All-MAAC Second Team honoree as a sophomore, he also represented Canada at the FIL U-19 World Championships in 2016, earning a silver medal. He spent five seasons in the OJALL with the Whitby Warriors, recording 75 points on 22 goals and 53 assists.
Veltman, selected in the fourth round, 53rd overall, was named Junior B East’s Most Valuable Defensive Player following the 2019 season. In 55 games with the West Durham Ironheads over five seasons, he had 39 points with 16 goals and 23 assists. Veltman also saw action in four games as an affiliate player for the Junior A Toronto Beaches, recording one assist.
