Orlin & Cohen Postgame Report: Riptide Can’t Complete The Comeback Against Georgia

Uniondale, NY – A late comeback fell short for the New York Riptide as Lyle Thompson netted five goals and added five assists to give the Georgia Swarm a 14-10 victory. For the Riptide, Kieran McArdle scored a hat trick and added three assists, marking his second straight game with three goals and at least six points (had nine points on Friday against Philadelphia).

“He’s going to play in this league for a long time,” Riptide forward Callum Crawford said. “He’s not just a ‘I’m just trying box’ American born players. He’s in this league and he belongs in this league. The position he got to play this weekend benefited his comfort level and his ability so you really got to see the result of that, the comfort.”

Callum Crawford scored six points on two goals and four assists, marking his eighth straight game that he has scored at least five points, dating back to the beginning of February 2020 when he was a member of the New England Black Wolves. Tyson Gibson also scored six points on two goals and four assists.

The Riptide got out to a quick start once again, as Kieran McArdle netted one just 35 seconds in. The teams traded goals, as Dan MacRae scored one in transition, and Callum Crawford added his first of the game. But it was Georgia who took a 4-3 lead into the second quarter.

Georgia proceeded to outscore the Riptide 4-0 in the second quarter, with Thompson factoring into three of them (two goals and one assist) to push their lead to 8-3.

In the third quarter, the Riptide kept pace, with goals from Crawford, McArdle, Larson Sundown and Tyson Gibson to keep the Georgia lead to just four heading into the final frame at 11-7.

Two quick goals by the Riptide came from Gibson and Connor Kearnan to cut the lead to just two. But it was Georgia who would pull ahead in the end for the 14-10 victory.

After two weeks off for a bye week and Christmas break, the Riptide will be back in action on December 31 at 8:00 p.m. ET as they take on the Colorado Mammoth in a New Year’s Eve matchup at Ball Arena in Denver, Colorado.
