Orlin & Cohen Postgame Report: Riptide Fall to Swarm 13-8

A slow start to the game proved costly on Saturday night as the New York Riptide dropped a 13-8 decision to the Georgia Swarm in their final home game of the 2023 season. Jeff Teat had 7 points in the loss, setting a new career high with 112 for the season.

Georgia came out hot, scoring the first six goals of the game before Mike Burke was finally able to get the Riptide on the board. The Swarm added another goal, and New York trailed 7-1 after one.

“Coach Laddy said be on your toes and we weren’t on our toes, and we paid for it. We were fighting to get back the whole game which is something that you don’t want to do,” said Riptide defenseman Scott Dominey.

The second quarter started similarly with Georgia getting the first two goals of the quarter before Jeff Teat got one back with a penalty shot goal. Georgia responded with an Andrew Kew power play goal, however New York ate into the deficit with two goals from Jeff Teat sandwiched around a Dominey breakaway tally, though Georgia added one before halftime, and the Riptide trailed 11-6 at the break.

Teat picked up where he left off in the third quarter with his fourth of the game, although Kew responded with two goals in quick succession for Georgia, which would be the final two goals of the period, and New York went to the fourth quarter trailing 13-6.

Tyler Digby opened up the fourth quarter for the Riptide with a perfectly placed shot in the top corner, and the game would go nearly 10 minutes without a goal after this before a Connor Kearnan power play goal on the doorstep. Unfortunately this would be too little too late for New York, as they would lose the game 13-8.

The Riptide return to action Friday, March 31 in a rematch against Georgia at Gas South Arena. The game will be available to watch on ESPN+ and listen to on WRHU 88.7 FM, WRHU.org and the WRHU iPhone App. Live stats and periodic in-game updates will be available via Twitter @ NewYorkRiptide.
