ORLIN & COHEN POSTGAME REPORT: RIPTIDE WIN ANOTHER 14-11 OVER GEORGIA

The New York Riptide and the Georgia Swarm met Saturday night, January 27th, in Uniondale, New York. The Riptide were able to win their second straight game in a row 14-11, breaking a six-game winless streak against the Georgia Swarm. Connor Kearnan and Reilly O’Connor lead the Riptide offense in this matchup with seven points each. The Riptide have now won two games in a row and their third win in the last four games. The Georgia Swarm have now dropped their third straight game in a row as they will look to get back in the win column next week against Vancouver. The Riptide will travel on the road to Calgary for their next contest.

Jeff Teat and the Riptide offense picked up where they left off last game, scoring five first-quarter goals. Jeff Teat scored three of the Riptide’s first five goals to keep his red-hot January going. The Swarm were able to get a goal from Lyle Thompson with four seconds remaining to end the first quarter, with the Riptide leading 5-3. After a Stephen Keogh goal to kick off the second frame, the Swarm scored the next three goals to tie the game up at six. After the Swarm took the lead for the first time since 1-0, Jeff Teat scored his fourth of the game to tie things back up as Connor Kearnan tallied two late in the quarter to give the Riptide a 9-8 lead at the half.

Larson Sundown wasted no time in the second half kicking off the scoring with his second of the game before Brent Noseworthy and Connor Kearnan scored for the Riptide. The Swarm made a goaltender change at that point, pulling Brett Dobson after letting up 11 goals while just making 15 saves. After a scoreless 6-minute stretch, Andrew Kew got the Swarm back on the board with just over two minutes to go in the quarter to pull them within three goals. Larson Sundown got his third goal of the game with just over a second to go in the third to give the Riptide a 13-9 lead with just one quarter to play.

In the fourth quarter, the Swarm were able to pull within two goals with 15 seconds to play in the game but did not have enough left in the tank to complete the comeback. The Riptide have now won two games in a row after two impressive efforts against top teams in the league. Coach Dan Ladouceur was extremely happy with his team’s performance Saturday night playing a complete game, “We always talk about the elusive 60-minute game, and I think that is one we put in.” The Riptide played their most complete effort of the season, winning 56% of the faceoffs and only committing one penalty in the contest.

Connor Kearnan was exceptional in the contest, scoring seven points on three goals and four assists. Connor acknowledged the effort tonight started before the game began in the pregame lead-up. “It started with pregame, we came in locked in, we talked about what everybody had to do, and everyone just did their job.”

The Riptide will travel on the road for their next game against the Calgary Roughnecks Scotiabank Saddledome on February 2nd at 9:00 PM EST. Georgia will look to break their losing streak back at home against the Vancouver Warriors.
