Riptide Acquire Defender Chad Cummings from Panther City

UNIONDALE, NY (January 10, 2023) – The New York Riptide announced today that the club has traded right-handed forward Jake Fox to Panther City Lacrosse Club in exchange for left-handed defender Chad Cummings.

The 31-year-old Cummings brings an impressive lacrosse resume to the Riptide. The Caledon, Ontario native served as the first ever captain of Panther City, and won an NLL title with the Calgary Roughnecks in 2019. The 6’5, 217lbs defender has one assist, 13 loose balls, three caused turnovers and a blocked shot in five games played this season. Last season, Cummings played in all but one game for Panther City, where he scored one goal, added five assists, scooped 78 loose balls, and caused nine turnovers.

Fox, a 26-year-old Ottawa, Ontario native, had been with the Riptide since the club’s inception. The 6’2, 200lbs forward appeared in three games this season with the Riptide, where he recorded three goals, added one assist and one caused turnover.

We identified defense as a position that we needed help with and we are excited to add a defenseman of Chad’s pedigree. Chad is a big, strong, hard to play against defenseman. On top of what Chad brings on the field we are also adding a character leader, a former Captain and NLL Champion. He is a perfect fit for our organization and are excited to welcome him to NY.”

Cummings is expected to make his Riptide debut in Sunday’s game against the Rochester Knighthawks.
