Riptide Re-Sign Defender Damon Edwards

Uniondale, NY (August 11th, 2023) – The New York Riptide announced today that the club re-signed veteran defender Damon Edwards to a one-year contract.

Edwards, 34, has spent the past two seasons with the Riptide. The Toronto, Ontario native suited up for 17 games last season, and registered six assists, 61 loose balls and 15 caused turnovers. Over his 11 NLL seasons, Edwards has played in 176 games, where he has scored 47 goals and added 64 assists for 111 points, and has tallied 596 loose balls, and 123 caused turnovers.

“I couldn’t be more excited to be back with the Riptide, the Island has become a second home for my family and I,” said Edwards. “What makes it home is the people; from our amazing fans, the players, management, coaches, and the people behind the scenes working hard every day so we can play the game we love. This season can’t come soon enough, I know as a team we have a bad taste in our mouths from last year, but we are confident we can be a top team in this league, and we’re excited to prove it.”

“Getting Damon back with the Riptide was extremely important for us this off-season,” said Riptide EVP & GM Rich Lisk. “Not only is Damon an elite defender, but he is a voice in the locker room, a leader on the floor, and he is great with our fans. This is a player that quickly became exactly what we hoped for when we signed him as a free agent two seasons ago. With this addition to what we have already done this off-season improve our defense, we’re even more excited to start this season.”
