Riptide vs. Swarm – Game Preview

The New York Riptide head down south for an immediate rematch against the Georgia Swarm on Friday, March 31 at Gas South Arena in Duluth, Georgia with opening faceoff set for 7:00 PM.

These two teams met in their most recent game, a 13-8 win for Georgia at the Nassau Coliseum. Georgia jumped out to a 9-1 lead in the first half, and though the teams played fairly evenly after that, it was too big of a deficit for New York to overcome. As expected, the three headed monster of Andrew Kew, Lyle Thompson, and Shayne Jackson did the heavy lifting for the Georgia attack with 9, 7, and 6 points respectively. Defensively, the Swarm saw standout performances from Jordan MacIntosh, who had 10 loose balls, 3 caused turnovers, and one goal, and TJ Comizio, who recovered 9 loose balls and caused one turnover, while also adding an assist, and goaltender Brett Dobson stopped 42 of the 50 shots he faced.

For New York, as usual, Jeff Teat led the offense, having a direct hand in 7 of the 8 Riptide goals, including his second penalty shot goal of the season. Mike Burke and Connor Kearnan each recorded three points, and Scott Dominey chipped in with a transition goal, while also causing 2 turnovers and picking up 6 loose balls on the defensive end. Goaltenders Cameron Dunkerley and Steve Orleman combined for 38 saves.

Speaking after Saturday’s game, Riptide forward Tyler Digby said regarding the immediate rematch, “When you get a chance to come out and prove to yourself, and prove to your teammates and your fans that that was not the team we want to be, and I think we’ll relish in that opportunity and come out with a much better effort.”

The game will be available to watch on ESPNews and ESPN+, and listen to on WRHU 88.7 FM, WRHU.org and the WRHU iPhone App. Live stats and periodic in-game updates will be available via Twitter @ NewYorkRiptide.
