How To Bet On The National Lacrosse League

US sports betting sites are always looking to expand and reach new customers, which is why there is an increasing number of betting markets available for the National Lacrosse League (NLL). As the sport of lacrosse continues to grow in popularity and as more states legalize sports betting, there has never been a better time to wager on the NLL. Even if you are a complete beginner to betting, you can easily get started. Read our expert guide to discover more about betting legally in the US and what wagers are available on lacrosse.

What is the National Lacrosse League?

The National Lacrosse League (NLL) is the most significant annual men’s professional lacrosse league in the US. It is held each year across the United States and Canada and is the third highest-attended pro indoor sports league in the country after the NHL and NBA. Despite this, betting markets on the NLL are relatively new to most US sportsbooks.

The league originated in 1986 as the Eagle Pro Box Lacrosse League (EPBLL). There were just a handful of teams competing in the EPBLL, and therefore a small number of games each season. However, the league rebranded as Major Indoor Lacrosse League (MILL) in 1989 and became more popular.

The league finally became known as the National Lacrosse League in 1997. There are now 15 teams in the league competing in two conferences. Each team plays nine games at home and nine away in the regular season, with the top sides qualifying for the playoffs.

How do I Bet on Lacrosse Legally in the United States?

Before 2018, Nevada was the only state in the US where you could place bets on sports. This is because the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act of 1992 (PASPA) was introduced, stopping any states from creating new sports betting legislation. However, Nevada had already legalized sports betting before this was signed.

In 2018, the US Supreme Court deemed PASPA unconstitutional and struck it down, allowing each state to create sports betting legislation. There are now over 30 states with some form of retail or online sports betting. You don’t have to be a resident of one of these states to bet on sports. You just need to visit and follow local regulations.

Each state will have its own regulations on sports betting, including the legal gambling age and which sports to offer. This means lacrosse betting may not be available in some jurisdictions. Be sure to check local laws before betting.

How to Sign Up with Legal US Sportsbooks

US Sportsbooks make it very easy for you to sign up and start betting on sports. Follow our step-by-step guide below to register with a betting site and place bets on lacrosse.

  1. Choose a sportsbook licensed in the state where you are playing.
  2. Click the “Register” or “Join” button. This is typically in the top right corner of the homepage.
  3. During registration, you will need to provide information such as your name, date of birth, state, address, phone number, and email address. Your address does not have to be in the state where you are playing.
  4. You will also need to provide the last four digits of your social security number (SSN). Sportsbooks need this information to protect you from fraud and underage gambling.
  5. Once you have entered all the required information, visit the sportsbook’s cashier section.
  6. Choose a payment method and how much money you want to add. Once you confirm your deposit, you should receive your money instantly.
  7. You can now wager on lacrosse or any other available sport. Add a market to your bet slip and choose your stake to place your bet. If you win and want to cash out, head back to the cashier section and follow the withdrawal instructions.
  8. Online sportsbook operators will ask for verification before you can withdraw funds. This involves uploading documents to prove your ID (driving license, passport, ID card) and proof of address (utility bill, bank statement, tax document).

What Bets Can I Place on Lacrosse?

While the markets available on lacrosse games will vary between games and competitions, you will get the most popular bet types for NLL games. Check out some of the markets you may see below.

Moneylines

Often seen as the simplest bet available at a sportsbook, a moneyline is a bet on which team you think will win an event. For example, if you think the Colorado Mammoth will defeat the Buffalo Bandits, you can back Colorado on the moneyline. If Colorado wins, your bet is a winner. If the Mammoth loses, your bet loses too.

Point Spreads

This is one of the most common bets on the NLL at US sportsbooks. You bet on the margin of victory in a lacrosse game rather than the actual result. For each game, the favorite is marked with a minus (-) symbol, while the underdog gets a plus (+) symbol. If the favorite is at -6, that team must win by six points. The underdog at +6 needs to win or lose by fewer than six.

Totals

Also known as an under/over bet, a sportsbook will set a total for a statistic. You need to predict whether there will be over or under that amount. The most common total bet is the points total, where you bet on how many points are scored in a lacrosse game. It doesn’t matter which team scores the points as long as your prediction is correct.

For example, If the total is set to ten and both teams score six, this hits the over at 12 points. However, the game hits the under if the final score is 8-1.

Parlays

A parlay bet allows you to combine multiple markets from different games into one wager. You only need to place a single stake rather than betting on each market individually. In addition, you will also get better odds by betting on parlays rather than betting on each bet. However, every prediction in your parlay needs to come in for your parlay to succeed.

For example, if you add four moneyline bets on the NLL to your parlay, you need every prediction to be successful to win money. If even one part of your parlay fails, you win nothing.

Prop Bets

A prop bet is a wager on a statistic for a player or team which disregards the final result. For example, you can place a prop bet on a player to score a goal in an NLL game.

Future Bets

While all bets are placed on events in the future, a future bet is a wager on a significant event in the far future. For example, you can bet on the New York Riptide to win the NLL. You may find future bets for other awards, like the top goalscorer in an NLL season.
