Riptide Fall To Black Wolves

NEW YORK – Rookie Travis Longboat recorded his first career hat trick and added two assists but it was not enough as the New York Riptide fell to the New England Black Wolves 12-8 on Friday night at NYCB LIVE.

New England (6-3) got the scoring started just 1:16 into play when Callum Crawford found the back of the net. However, the Riptide (1-10) tied it just just over a minute later when Tyson Gibson found Jean-Luc Chetner for the goal. The Riptide would score twice more in the frame, one from Kieran McArdle and the first from Longboat, to close out the first quarter leading 3-1.

Crawford again got the scoring started in the second, finding the back of the net 3:48 into the frame, but Longboat answered right back just 32 seconds later to make it a two goal lead again for New York. Dan Lomas put the Riptide up 5-3 5:49 into the quarter, but Joe Resetarits scored twice in the closing minutes of the frame to make it a 5-4 Riptide advantage heading into halftime.

The third quarter was all Black Wolves, as the team rattled off four straight goals to take a 8-5 lead into the final frame. Gale Thorpe found the back of the net 1:28 into the fourth to cut the lead to two goals, but the Black Wolves answered right back to go back up by three. Connor Kelly again cut it down to just one at 9-7, but New England scored four goals in the closing seven minutes to ice the victory.

Tyson Gibson had four assists in the loss for New York while Kelly added two assists as did Chetner, to give them each three points apiece in the loss. Crawford led the Black Wolves with eight points on three goals and five assists while Reilly O’Connor and Resetarits each had a hat trick and three assists for six points each.

In net, Gowah Abrams made his first start for the Riptide, making 34 saves. Doug Jamieson had 41 saves in the win for New England.

The Riptide are back in action on Saturday night when they travel to Rochester to take on the Knighthawks. Game time is set for 7 p.m. and the game can be watched on Bleacher Report Live.
