GAME PREVIEW: NEW YORK RIPTIDE VS SASKATCHEWAN RUSH

The New York Riptide and Saskatchewan Rush will meet for the second half of a Home and Home doubleheader on Saturday, March 23rd. The Rush collected the victory last Saturday in a high-scoring affair at the Saskel Arena in Canada. Nine different Rush players scored a goal in that contest to carry the team to a 17-15 victory. The Riptide outshot the Rush by 12 in Saturday’s game but were thwarted by Frank Scigliano’s efforts in cage, as he made 40 saves in the game. Jeff Teat reclaimed the league lead in points with a four-goal, four-assist night to bring him up to 95 points on the season. The two teams will meet again on Saturday, at 7:30 PM in Uniondale, New York, at the Nassau Coliseum. The game will be available to watch on ESPN+ and TSN+, as well as available on MSG+.

Last Weekend’s Game:

These teams will play less than a week after their first matchup in Saskatchewan, where the Rush beat the Riptide 17-15. The Rush offense centered around Ryan Keenan, who had two goals and five assists on the night. The Rush were able to get to Cameron Dunkerley early, as the 16 goals tied the most that he had let up in his career. The Rush had the lead for the entirety of the game, with the biggest lead being six goals entering the fourth quarter. The Riptide battled back to get the game within two goals multiple times in the fourth quarter, but the Rush offense always had an answer to keep the game in control. Larson Sundown registered another strong game, scoring four goals while dishing out two assists too. Sundown has already smashed his career high in goals and points in his third season in the NLL, as he still has four more games to go to continue to add to his totals.

Mr. Consistency – Jeff Teat:

Throughout the entire season, Jeff Teat has delivered game in and game out. Jeff Teat is first in the NLL in points (95) and goals (43), all while having the attention of the defense once he steps on the floor. Jeff has played eleven games in 2024, he has not registered less than five points in any of those games. Out of those eleven games, Teat has registered a hattrick in eight of them. Jeff Teat is a generational player who makes everyone around him better just by playing alongside him.

Playoff Standings:

As the season is coming to a close next month, the playoff picture has started to become clearer with fewer games remaining. The Riptide’s loss on Saturday moved them out of the playoff picture, while Saskatchewan moved up to the ninth spot, narrowly behind Panther City, who has also played two more games than them. The Riptide are now sitting at 6-8, but still only just a half-game out of the playoffs with four games remaining. After a four-game win streak during the season, the Riptide have now lost four of their last five and are close to squandering the team’s first postseason appearance since the Riptide joined the NLL in 2020. The Rush have played the least amount of games in the NLL, which will give them control of their destiny, currently in the midst of playing six games in March.
