New York Riptide Acquire Tyler Digby, Ron John And 2024 First Round Pick From Colorado Mammoth In Trade

Uniondale, NY (March 15, 2022) – The New York Riptide have acquired forward Tyler Digby, defenseman Ron John and a 2024 first round pick from the Colorado Mammoth in exchange for forward Tyson Gibson, the team announced today. The deal is pending league approval.

This season, Digby has 23 points on six goals and 17 assists in 10 games played. In 10 games with the Riptide last season, the New Westminster, BC native posted 36 points on 14 goals and 22 assists, while adding 30 loose balls and two caused turnovers before being traded to Colorado, where he scored six points on two goals in two games before the season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Drafted by the Vancouver Warriors in the third round of the 2013 NLL Entry Draft, 20th overall, Digby has spent time in Vancouver, Calgary, New England, New York and Colorado, and was selected by the Riptide in the ninth round of the 2019 NLL Expansion Draft, where he led the team in goals, assists and points at the time of his trade. In six playoff appearances, Digby has logged 16 points on 10 goals and six assists, and 15 loose balls, including a three-game, nine-point (eight goals, one assist) stretch in 2016 with Calgary.

John was selected in the second round (18th overall) in the 2020 NLL Entry Draft. In 10 career NLL games, John scooped 39 loose balls and caused five turnovers, while adding three assists. The 23-year-old is a graduate of UAlbany, made 49 total appearances, including seven starts, scoring 54 points on 29 goals and 25 assists.

“This was the hardest deal I’ve had to make in my short tenure as GM,” Riptide General Manager Jim Veltman said. “Tyson is a quality person and a good lacrosse player. However, we felt the pieces we got back in this deal improves our deficiencies on offense and defense and maintains our draft equity. We welcome our new additions and wish Tyson all the best going forward.”

The New York Riptide return home to Nassau Coliseum on Saturday, March 26 at 7:30 PM to face the Albany Firewolves. The Riptide will host Lacrosse is for Everyone, allowing kids of all ages to participate in activities and participate in lacrosse for the very first time. Tickets start at just $22 so get yours now at NewYorkRiptide.com
