Riptide Fall In Calgary

CALGARY – Connor Kelly tied his career-high with four goals and added one assist to pace the Riptide with five points but it was not enough as New York fell to the Calgary Roughnecks on Saturday night at Scotiabank Saddledome.

Kelly set his career-high last season on April 6 when he was a member of the San Diego Seals. Jean-Luc Chetner had four points for New York (1-8) on a goal and three helpers while Tyson Gibson (2 goals, 1 assist) and Kieran McArdle (1 goal, two assists) each had three points in the loss.

Calgary (3-4) opened the scoring just 19 seconds into play and added a second just over a minute later to take a 2-0 advantage. Gibson picked up his first of the night just over seven minutes into the game and Kelly found the back of the net shortly thereafter to tie it at 2-2.

The Roughnecks would take a five goal lead twice throughout the game, once at 8-3 and once at 9-4, but New York battled back on goals from Chetner, Gale Thorpe and Kelly to cut it down to 9-7 in the closing minutes of the third. However, Calgary opened the fourth with three goals in the first four minutes to go back up by five.

Rhys Duch led the Roughnecks with six points on two goals and four assists. Tyler Pace had four points on three goals and one assist.

The Riptide will be back in action next on Saturday, February 15 when they travel to Georgia to take on the Swarm.
