Riptide vs. Swarm – Game Preview

The New York Riptide play their final home game of the season this Saturday, March 25, when they take on the Georgia Swarm with opening faceoff scheduled for 7:30 PM at Nassau Coliseum.

Georgia’s offense runs through the triumvirate of Lyle Thompson, Shayne Jackson, and Andrew Kew, who have scored over 60% of the team’s goals. Riptide head coach Dan Ladouceur spoke of their offensive quality saying “Offensively, they’re loaded. Any time Lyle Thompson’s on the floor the threat to score is very real… Their two man game is unreal, the way they swing the ball.” The pair of former MVPs in Thompson and Jackson have scored 72 and 51 points this season, with Thompson leading the team in goals, and Kew has 67 points, with his 40 assists being tied with Thompson for the team lead. On the back end, the Swarm are led by second year player TJ Comizio, who is 6th in the league with 23 caused turnovers and has picked up 90 loose balls, two time Transition Player of the Year Jordan MacIntosh, and Adam Wiedemann, who is tied for the team lead with 10 blocked shots. Georgia also gets plenty of offense from their defense, with Comizio, Wiedemann, MacIntosh, and Bryan Cole all having double digit point totals this season.

Coming off their second straight win, New York is now just two games out of a playoff spot with 5 games left to play. Ladouceur said after their win over Albany on Saturday that the biggest factors into their renewed fortunes have been getting more contributions from players other than Jeff Teat, which was evident against Albany as 8 different Riptide players scored, and the defense being more aggressive, which has resulted in New York giving up just 10 goals in each of their last two games, which is their lowest total of the season. Another part of this has been the goaltending of Cameron Dunkerley, who has stopped 83 of 103 shots in his first two starts of the season. If they are going to win this game and continue their playoff push, the Riptide will need to keep this up.

The game will be available to watch on ESPN+ and listen to on WRHU 88.7 FM, WRHU.org and the WRHU iPhone App. Live stats and periodic in-game updates will be available via Twitter @ NewYorkRiptide.
