New York Riptide Sign Angus Goodleaf

NEW YORK, August 1, 2019 – The New York Riptide announced today that the team has signed goalie Angus Goodleaf to a two-year deal. Per team policy, specific terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“When the Riptide announced their coaching staff, led by Coach Thorpe, I thought it would be a great place to play,” said Goodleaf. “I’m familiar with Coach Thorpe and Coach Abrams’ styles and I played with Coach Smith in Buffalo. I’m excited to join the Riptide for the team’s inaugural NLL season, and can’t wait to get started.”

Added Riptide Head Coach and General Manager Regy Thorpe: “We are thrilled to get Angus inked today, he brings incredible passion and a wealth of lacrosse and championship experience to our organization. This is a great day for the Riptide, and on behalf of our staff and everyone at GF Sports we want to welcome Angus and his family to New York.”

Goodleaf, a 6-2, 274-pound veteran goalie, has played in 155 NLL games and notched 11 wins, a 11.47 goals-against average and a .771 save percentage. Goodleaf spent the last seven seasons (2013-19) with the Rochester Knighthawks, and was part of the 2013 and 2014 NLL Championship winning teams. Prior to the Knighthawks, he spent three seasons (2010-12) with the Buffalo Bandits. Goodleaf was originally selected in the fourth-round (51st overall) in the 2007 NLL Entry Draft by the Minnesota Swarm.

Goodleaf has twice represented The Iroquois Nationals at the World Indoor Lacrosse Championship, winning back-to-back silver medals in 2011 and 2015. At the Junior “A” level, he was a member of the Six Nations Arrows in 2008, coached by Thorpe and Abrams, and led the team to a berth in the Ontario Finals. The previous season, he guided Burnaby to an appearance in the Minto Cup. In the Senior “A” loop, he has one championship to his credit, winning the 2010 Mann Cup with the Peterborough Lakers.

The NLL awarded the New York franchise to live events and sports media entertainment company GF Sports in December 2018. The Riptide will play home games at NYCB LIVE, Home of the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum when it begins play in December for the 2019-20 NLL season.
