ORLIN & COHEN POST-GAME REPORT: RIPTIDE DEFEAT WINGS 13-10

A 48 save performance from Cameron Dunkerley in his Riptide debut and 8 points from Jeff Teat helped the New York Riptide defeat the Philadelphia Wings 13-10 at Nassau Coliseum on Saturday night.

New York jumped out to an early lead, first from Reilly O’Connor with a smart cut to the net and top corner finish and then Connor Kearnan and Larson Sundown with power play goals. Dan Lomas joined in on the scoring with exactly 2 minutes left in the first, and then Philadelphia got their first of the game from Joe Resetarits to close out the quarter with the Riptide leading 4-1.

Mitch Jones opened the scoring in the second quarter, although Tyler Digby quickly responded for the Riptide. After a long scoreless stretch, Mike Burke added one more for New York, and then Jeff Teat tacked on a power play goal. Philadelphia got goals from Jones and Blaze Riorden to close out the quarter, and the Riptide led 7-4 at the half.

Ben McIntosh got the second half started with a power play goal for the Wings, and Taite Cattoni followed that up with a close range goal to make it a one goal game, but Teat was able to answer for the Riptide with his second of the night. From there, the teams traded goals, first with Resetarits getting a power play goal, and then Jack Kelly getting one in transition for New York, and the Riptide took a 9-7 lead into the fourth quarter.

New York came out hot in the fourth quarter, with an O’Connor twister off a behind the back feed from Teat, a Scott Dominey breakaway goal, and a power play goal from O’Connor. Philadelphia began mounting a comeback after this with 2 goals from Jones and one from McIntosh, however Teat was able to ice the game with his third, and the Riptide held on for the 13-10 win.

The Riptide return to action next Saturday, March 18, against the Albany FireWolves at Nassau Coliseum.
