Orlin & Cohen Post-Game Report: Riptide Fall 19-12 to Wings

The New York Riptide dropped a physical affair on Saturday afternoon to the Philadelphia Wings, falling 19-12 at the Wells Fargo Center. Jeff Teat had 9 points on a goal and 8 assists in the loss, while Connor Kearnan scored 4 goals.

Philadelphia got out to an early 2-0 lead off of goals from Joe Resetarits and Ben McIntosh before Reilly O’Connor got the Riptide on the board with a shot from in close. From there, the game picked up a fast pace, with the teams exchanging goals on the following three possessions, first with Resetarits, then Teat for New York, and then Mitch Jones for the Wings. After the game slowed down for a bit, New York got the next goal with a transition tally from Jay Thorimbert, however Alex Crepinsek restored the 2 goal lead with a transition goal of his own, and the first quarter ended with the Riptide trailing 5-3.

McIntosh opened the second quarter, beating Steve Orleman from distance, but Tyler Digby got it back with a crease dive, and Larson Sundown made it a one goal game with a power play dunk. Matt Rambo and Jones scored the next 2 goals of the game for Philadelphia, and the teams went to the locker room with the Wings holding an 8-5 lead.

Philadelphia once again struck first to open the third quarter, this time through Sam LeClair, however Connor Kearnan responded immediately for New York with a smart cut to the net and finish. Jones answered for the Wings with the next 2 goals of the game before Digby got his second with a low shot from outside to stop the bleeding, but then Jones got his fifth of the game for Philadelphia. Mike Burke got his first goal as a member of the Riptide with a long range shot, however, the floodgates started to open from there, with the Wings getting consecutive power play goals from McIntosh and Blaze Riorden, and then Resetarits adding another before Kearnan got his second shortly before the quarter ended to make it 15-9.

Kearnan picked up where he left off in the fourth quarter, scoring just 20 seconds into the period, but this was just temporary reprieve before Jones got another for Philadelphia. Following a scrum that left the Wings with a 5-on-3, Riorden added another. Kearnan got his fourth of the game and Burke got another to bring New York within 5, but Resetarits and McIntosh put the result out of question.

The Riptide return to action on Saturday, March 11 against these Wings at Nassau Coliseum with opening faceoff set for 7:30 PM. The game will be available to watch on ESPN+, and listen to on WRHU 88.7 FM, WRHU.org and the WRHU iPhone App. Live stats and periodic in-game updates will be available via Twitter @ NewYorkRiptide.
