Orlin & Cohen Postgame Report: Riptide Drop A Close One In Philadelphia

Philadelphia, PA – Callum Crawford scored eight points and Kieran McArdle scored nine points but the New York Riptide (0-2) were defeated 14-12 by the Philadelphia Wings (2-0) in the first of two games this weekend for New York.

It marked the seventh straight game that Crawford has finished with at least five points in a game.

The Riptide jumped out to an early 1-0 lead just 15 seconds in, as Connor Kearnan took a cross-crease feed from Crawford and netted it. Philadelphia responded with four of the next five goals to end the first quarter, with Callum Crawford adding a shorthanded goal on an assist by Leroy Halftown. The assist marked the first career point in Halftown’s NLL career.

“The way that this team is designed, we need to come out and be right on our game from the first whistle,” head coach Dan Ladouceur said. “We haven’t had that yet. We haven’t had a full 60 minutes yet.”

The Riptide were outscored 5-3 in the second quarter. Kieran McArdle scored his first of the season on the powerplay and added his second goal late in the half.

The third quarter was a swing for the Riptide, as they outscored Philadelphia 6-3. Larson Sundown scored twice, and McArdle finished a hat trick, before Crawford finished one of his own, to tie the game at 12-12 with two seconds left in the third. But it was the Wings who rallied back in the fourth to send the Riptide to their second straight loss after outscoring them 3-1. McArdle finished the game with three goals and six assists, and Crawford finished with four goals and four assists.

The Riptide return home to they take on the Georgia Swarm on Sunday at 3:00pm at Nassau Coliseum. Be sure to tune in to MSG+ and ESPN+ on television and WRHU Radio Hofstra University on the radio and web for coverage and follow @NewYorkRiptide on social media for updates.
