Riptide Sign Long Island Native And Two-Time National Champion Myles Jones

Jones was a 4-time Suffolk County All-League Selection at Walt Whitman High School

New York, NY (January 20, 2020) – The New York Riptide today announced that Myles Jones has been signed to a protected practice player contract. The deal is pending league approval.

Jones, a native of Huntington, enjoyed a standout career at Walt Whitman High School. In addition to being a four-time Suffolk County All-League selection, Jones was rated the No. 8 postgraduate player by Inside Lacrosse and was a US Lacrosse and Under Armour All-American as a senior. While at Walt Whitman, he also earned league MVP, all-Long Island, all-league and all-county honors on the basketball court and was an all-league and all-county quarterback.

Jones parlayed that success into a career that saw him graduate as arguably the best midfielder to ever wear a Duke jersey. In addition to his two national championships in 2013 and 2014, he was a three-time All-American with the Blue Devils, including two First Team selections. He was awarded the Lt. J. G. Donald MacLaughlin Award as the nation’s top midfielder and was a Tewaarton Award finalist in both his junior and senior seasons and was the 2016 ACC Offensive Player of the Year. Jones owns the Duke midfield record for career and single-season points with 231 and 77 respectively and he ranks seventh in Blue Devil history in points (231), 12th in career goals (126) and fifth in career assists (105). His 231 points are the second most for a midfielder in NCAA Division I history and he was the first midfielder in NCAA history to record 100 career goals and 100 assists.

“We’re excited to have Myles as part of our organization,” Riptide head coach and general manager Regy Thorpe said. “He is a guy that we’ve had at training camps for US Indoor over the past few years. He doesn’t have a lot of box experience but he has a lot upside and wants to learn and evolve his game. His size, speed and athleticism will fit in well with our team.”

This past summer, Jones starred in the Premier Lacrosse League as a member of the Chaos. He had 21 points in the inaugural season, helping the team to the playoffs.
