Riptide Sign Long Island Native Petey LaSalla

Uniondale, NY (June 7th, 2023) – The New York Riptide announced today that the club has agreed to terms with Long Island native Petey LaSalla on a two-year contract.

LaSalla played his entire collegiate career with the NCAA DI Virginia Cavaliers, was selected 47th overall by Panther City Lacrosse Club at the 2022 NLL Entry Draft and was acquired by the Riptide via trade with Panther City in January of 2023. The 5’7, 185-pound midfielder brings an impressive list of accolades to the Riptide. The 22-year-old holds UVA’s career and single season records for face-off wins and ground balls. Over his 77 games with the Cavaliers, LaSalla scored 39 goals and added 12 assists. LaSalla also holds the NCAA record for faceoffs taken, tallying over 1750 in his career.

LaSalla was recently selected in the second round (14th overall) of the Premier Lacrosse League College Draft, and is currently playing with the Whipsnakes Lacrosse Club for the summer.

“I am super excited to officially be a part of the New York Riptide organization,” said LaSalla. “Having the opportunity to play professionally so close to where I grew up is a dream come true. I’m really looking forward to my first training camp.”

“We are so happy to have gotten Petey signed, and can’t wait to get him entrenched with the Riptide,” said Riptide GM & EVP Rich Lisk. “Petey had a record setting career at Virginia, and we believe his game will translate very well to box lacrosse. It is a very exciting time for the Riptide faithful and all Long Islanders to welcome Petey home and see him suit up for his hometown team.”
